I obtained my undergraduate degree in Applied Nutrition from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. My passion for pediatric nutrition led me to Children’s Hospital Colorado, where I spent 2 years acquiring the skills necessary to become a Registered Dietitian with a specialty in Pediatric Nutrition.
At Children’s Hospital, I worked with kids and families visiting the hospital for all sorts of reasons – some kiddos were admitted with broken arms and ankles, while others were admitted for cancer treatment or management of lifelong conditions. I started to notice that a lot of the kids and families I spoke with were concerned with weight, size, and self-image. This didn’t (and still doesn’t) sit right with me.
This experience led me to shift direction a bit, and now, I run an online platform, Raising Body Positive Kids in an effort to help parents acquire the skills needed to help their children build healthy relationships with food and self-image. I remember the challenges that I faced growing up, and how hard it was maintain a healthy relationship with food and body-image as a little girl. And after speaking with hundreds of families over the years, I’ve realized that most of us, children and adults alike, experience this struggle to some degree.
Raising kids to have healthy and positive relationships with their food, health, and self-image is not an easy task, with so many obstacles that come up as they grow. If you are a parent who has felt the uncertainty and anxiety about how you and your child will navigate these obstacles, I am here to help. My goal is to use this platform to educate parents on the specific strategies they can use at home to support strong relationships with food, health, and self-image, and create new norms for generations to come.
